Former Rep. Peter Meijer announced that he is no longer running for Michigan’s open Senate seat due to changes in the race. As one of the House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, Meijer narrowly lost his House primary race in 2022. Despite qualifying for the ballot, he decided to withdraw his name to avoid a divisive primary. The GOP primary winner will likely face Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the general election. The Senate Republican campaign arm had urged Meijer not to run to prevent splitting the vote. Trump criticized Meijer’s decision and endorsed candidate Mike Rogers.
