MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Police Department has released body camera footage capturing the detainment of Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill.

The video shows a motorcycle officer forcefully removing Hill from his black McLaren sports car during a traffic stop prior to a game on Sunday. Reports indicate that the stop was due to reckless driving.

As tensions escalated, officers yelled at Hill, yet he refrained from resisting their force or confronting them physically. He responded to one officer, “Don’t tell me what to do.”

The incident began when two motorcycle officers pursued Hill after he appeared to speed past them while approaching Hard Rock Stadium. Upon signaling him to stop, the officers approached his vehicle. One officer knocked on the window, prompting Hill to roll it down and provide his driver’s license.

Hill expressed frustration at the officer’s actions, stating, “Don’t knock on my window like that,” as the officer sought to address Hill’s lack of a seatbelt.

To expedite the situation, Hill urged the officer to issue a ticket quickly, insisting, “Just give me my ticket, bro, so I can go. I’m going to be late.” Despite this, he rolled up his window again.

The officer insisted Hill keep his window down, warning him that he would be forcibly removed from the car if he didn’t comply. Following a series of exchanges, the officer commanded Hill to exit the vehicle, threatening to break his window if he refused.

Once the door opened, Hill was forcibly pulled from the vehicle by another officer, who then pushed him face-first onto the ground where he was restrained by multiple officers.

In the midst of the commotion, Hill was on the phone with the team’s director of security, informing him, “I am getting arrested, Drew.” His agent also arrived shortly thereafter.

While cuffed, Hill was told by an officer, “If we tell you to do something, do it,” to which he calmly replied, “Take me to jail, brother, do what you gotta do.” The officers proceeded to lift him off the ground and instructed him to sit on the curb, where Hill mentioned that he had recently undergone knee surgery.

As the situation unfolded, his teammate Jonnu Smith attempted to intervene but was ordered back to his vehicle. Defensive tackle Calais Campbell also appeared and was briefly handcuffed when he refused to leave until being instructed to do so.

Ultimately, Hill received tickets for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt but was not formally arrested. The officer involved has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal investigation.

Hill’s attorney, Julius B. Collins, is exploring legal options regarding the incident. He described the police actions as excessive, claiming that the situation escalated after Hill complied with the officers’ requests.

Collins stated, “One of the officers then knocked on Mr. Hill’s driver side window and advised Mr. Hill to keep his window rolled down otherwise he was going to get him out of the car,” emphasizing that Hill had cooperated throughout the exchange.

Hill remarked on the incident, stating, “I wasn’t disrespectful; my mom didn’t raise me that way.” He is still trying to make sense of what occurred.

The president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, Steadman Stahl, defended the officers, saying their actions were in line with protocol for safety measures following Hill’s reckless driving.

The Miami Dolphins issued a statement expressing concern over the “despicable” behavior of the officers and calling for immediate action from the police department regarding the incident.

In a response to the situation, Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced an internal investigation into the matter, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Daniels stated her commitment to thoroughly reviewing the incident and emphasized that one officer had been placed on administrative duties following the examination of the footage.

As fans and teammates witnessed Hill in handcuffs, the incident rapidly gained attention on social media, highlighting ongoing concerns about police conduct.
