Police report that a theft suspect with a weapon was shot by a Woodbury officer and deputy outside a Target store.

Woodbury police and a sheriff’s deputy shot an armed auto theft suspect outside a Target store in Woodbury, Minnesota. The suspect, a man in his 50s, was armed with a handgun and barricaded himself in the vehicle. Negotiations and less-than-lethal weapons were unsuccessful in getting him to surrender. The suspect pointed his handgun at law enforcement, and officers opened fire, injuring him. The suspect was taken to a hospital, and the officer and deputy are on administrative leave. The shooting is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, while Woodbury police are looking into the initial crime. Target confirmed no guests or employees were hurt, and the store remains closed for investigation.
