President of Columbia University announces that talks with demonstrators have reached an impasse, university will not cut ties with Israel

Columbia University’s president, Minouche Shafik, stated that negotiations with student organizers regarding divestment from Israel had failed, leading to protests on campuses nationwide. Shafik requested the protesters to voluntarily disperse, mentioning that the demonstration had created an unwelcoming environment for Jewish students and faculty. Despite the university’s decision not to divest, it offered an expedited review process for new proposals, access to investment holdings, and investments in health and education in Gaza. The protests have now entered the second week, with ongoing discussions to resolve the situation internally.
