Prince Harry and Prince William Keep Distance at Uncle’s Funeral: Report

Prince Harry and Prince William attended their uncle’s funeral on August 28, but reports indicate that the two siblings kept their distance from one another during the service.

They gathered at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk, to pay their respects to Lord Robert Fellowes, who was their mother Princess Diana‘s brother and served as private secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II from 1990 until 1999. Lord Fellowes passed away last month at the age of 82.

A family friend confirmed to The Sun that both princes were present but noted that they did not sit together. Another source added that “William and Harry were both there but we never saw them speak to each other and they were keeping their distance.”

The brothers’ strained relationship reportedly dates back to 2016, intensifying after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced their decision to step back from royal duties in early 2020.

The last public appearance of Harry and William together prior to the funeral was during the coronation of their father, King Charles, in May 2023. Reports suggest that there was little to no interaction between them at that event as well.

While Harry now resides in California, he was not expected to attend the funeral originally due to security concerns. However, shortly before the funeral, he and Meghan completed a high-profile trip to Colombia.

Harry also plans to visit New York City for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly and Climate Week. A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed that he would be in New York to promote various philanthropic initiatives.

This visit will mark Harry’s first solo trip to New York City since he and Meghan attended their Archewell Foundation’s first in-person summit for World Mental Health Day last October. That trip followed a controversial visit that involved a dramatic car chase.

The recent trip to Colombia came amid significant changes for Harry and Meghan. The couple, who are parents to Prince Archie, age 5, and Princess Lilibet, age 3, have several Netflix series in development, including a cooking show and a project focused on professional polo. Meghan is also preparing to launch a new lifestyle business, American Riviera Orchard, while Harry is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
