Protest votes take center stage in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s primary saw a substantial protest vote, with Trump facing more protest votes than Biden. Pennsylvania is a frontline battleground state with closed primaries, meaning only registered party voters could vote. Republicans cast ballots for former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, while Democrats voted for Rep. Dean Phillips. The protest votes could have implications in the general election. Despite internal dissenters, Biden is in a better position than Trump in Pennsylvania. The protest vote reflects dissatisfaction within both parties, with concerns about Trump’s brand of politics among Pennsylvania Republicans and Biden’s handling of the Israel-Gaza conflict among Democrats.
