Protests persist at University Gaza, with arrests at Columbia and violence at UCLA amid ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict

Demonstrations against Israel’s war on Gaza continued at US universities, with 282 arrests in New York and a violent attack in California. Students occupied Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall in support of Palestine, renamed it “Hind’s Hall” honoring a victim. Witnesses reported police arresting peaceful protesters and claims of aggression. UCLA saw pro-Israel counter-protesters assaulting pro-Palestine demonstrators. Violence persisted for two hours with glass bottles thrown. Protests arose after University of California testimony to US Congress, demanding divestment from Israel. International condemnation followed. The White House backed the crackdown, citing anti-Semitism concerns. The Jewish Voice for Peace group criticized the actions of the NYPD and Columbia University.
