Protests supporting Palestine erupt at Columbia, UCLA, and UT campuses during Israel’s conflict in Gaza

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended President Joe Biden’s response to campus protests by highlighting his strong condemnation of antisemitism. She emphasized the importance of students feeling safe and reiterated that antisemitism is hateful speech. Jean-Pierre clarified that the disruptive students represent a small percentage and should not detract from the overall student experience. She also pushed back against critics in the Republican Party who compared the protests to the 2017 White nationalist rally in Charlottesville. Additionally, it was announced that Biden will speak at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s days of remembrance ceremony next week.
