Queens Of The Stone Age Cancel Tour As Josh Homme Focuses On Health

Rock band Queens of the Stone Age has canceled the rest of its 2024 tour as lead vocalist and founding member Josh Homme focuses on his health and medical recovery. This decision follows an emergency surgery Homme underwent earlier this summer.

“QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows,” the band shared on social media yesterday. “Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year.”

The post continued, “Josh and the QOTSA family are so thankful for your support and the time we were able to spend together over the last year. Hope to see you all again in 2025.”

In the announcement, the band advised festival ticket holders to check specific event sites for updated information. Additional details about rescheduled dates will be provided by the sites where tickets were originally purchased. Shows scheduled for Boston at the MGM Music Hall, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Madison, Wisconsin have been postponed to next year. However, concerts in Bridgeport, Connecticut; Memphis, Tennessee, and Mexico City have been canceled.

This news comes on the heels of several cancellations earlier this summer. In July, as the frontman dealt with health issues, the band announced the cancellation of their performance at the AMA Festival in Vicenza, Italy, with refunds offered “due to illness.” Queens of the Stone Age returned to the stage the next day in Milan, but on July 9, it was announced that Homme had to urgently return to the U.S. for emergency surgery. The band stated that “every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue.” Remaining dates in July were canceled, leaving the band “gutted” that they couldn’t perform. By July 26, the band revealed that Homme was under doctors’ orders to stay in the U.S. to continue his medical care, leading to the cancellation of the remaining leg of their European tour.

Homme was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and revealed last year that the surgery to remove it was “successful.” Given this history, his current need to prioritize health and recovery is seen as crucial.
