Republican Senate Leader demands that Democratic Senator resign immediately following arrest and burglary charge

Court documents filed Tuesday morning reveal more about the arrest of Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) for a burglary at her home. Mitchell was found inside and arrested by Detroit Lakes police. She appeared in court where bail conditions were set, and prosecutors have no concerns about her returning for future court dates. Republican Senate leaders are considering calling for her immediate resignation. Mitchell admitted to trying to take items belonging to her late father, including his ashes. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy expressed shock at the allegations and stated Mitchell has the right to a full defense in court. Mitchell’s next court hearing is on June 10.
