Rioter who recorded Ashli Babbitt shooting on Jan. 6 receives sentence

John Earle Sullivan, a Jan. 6 rioter at the Capitol, has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the insurrection, including filming the fatal shooting of Ashli Babbitt. He claimed to be a journalist but was convicted of obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder. Sullivan made $90,000 selling the footage of Babbitt’s shooting and encouraged the mob to breach the Capitol. Prosecutors painted him as a chaos agent who supported taking down the system. Sullivan’s own recordings contradicted his claims of being only an observer.
