Royals Dominate Tatler’s Best Dressed List: Beatrice, Kate & Meghan Top Spots

Glamour, style, and elegance are attributes that royal women strive for when attending engagements and events.

The highest accolade for achieving such sartorial sophistication is being named among Britain’s best-dressed individuals. This year, Princess Beatrice has topped the prestigious list compiled by Tatler Magazine, marking a significant fashion milestone 13 years after she was mocked for her infamous ‘pretzel’ hat at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Princess Beatrice’s triumph follows in the footsteps of other royals; Kate Middleton was the list topper in 2022, and Meghan Markle claimed the title in 2018, the year she married Prince Harry. Lady Eliza Spencer and her sister Amelia were jointly crowned in 2021.

Annabel Elliot, Queen Camilla’s sister, secured fifth place on this year’s list, demonstrating that fashion flair runs in the family. The late Queen Elizabeth placed 27th in 2018, further underscoring the royal connection to high fashion.

Lady Amelia Windsor, the granddaughter of the Duke of Kent, consistently featured on Tatler’s best-dressed lists, ranking 21st in 2018, second in 2019, and 12th in 2021.

Princess Beatrice has been described as “a beacon of sartorial elegance” for her 2024 win. This is a remarkable turnaround for the princess who faced heavy criticism for the Philip Treacy hat she wore to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011. The headpiece was ridiculed and compared to a pretzel and even a toilet seat. But this year, Beatrice left an indelible mark at Royal Ascot in June with a stunning green floral 1950s-style dress by Emilia Wickstead.
