Section of I-81 shuts down during President Biden’s visit to Syracuse

Drivers should avoid the highways in Syracuse as President Joe Biden arrives, causing closures on Interstate 81. State troopers closed I-81 south from Route 481 to Franklin Street as Biden landed at the Syracuse airport. Traffic near Route 481 at Exit 29 in Cicero was at a standstill. Downtown roads like South Franklin, West Jefferson, and Walton streets are closed until around 4 p.m. I-81 North will be shut down when the president leaves around 2:45 p.m. Previous visits have caused significant traffic backups.
