Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell, from the DFL-Woodbury returned to the Senate and was greeted warmly by her colleagues. There was debate about her voting rights after she was arrested for burglary. Republican Sen. Carla Nelson motioned to block Mitchell from voting until an ethics investigation was complete, but Senate Democrats, holding a majority, opposed it. Mitchell’s votes were crucial in passing legislation. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy supported Mitchell, while Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson criticized her. Mitchell will continue voting until the ethics subcommittee meeting next Tuesday. Mitchell was also stripped of her committee assignments.
