Shannen Doherty, ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Star, Dies at 53

Shannen Doherty dedicated herself to raising awareness and funds for cancer research. In November 2023, she firmly committed to People that she wasn’t giving up on herself or her newly embraced goal to aid in finding a cure for cancer. Despite her terminal diagnosis, the actor openly discussed her funeral wishes.

In a January 2024 episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” she was joined by her best friend, Chris Cortazzo, who also serves as the executor of her will. When Cortazzo asked about her funeral preferences, she responded without hesitation, stating, “There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there.” Doherty further explained that she could picture some people attending merely because “it’s the politically correct thing to do” and expressed her hope that they wouldn’t show up. Demonstrating her enduring sense of humor, she added, “I want my funeral to be like a love fest,” and jokingly remarked, “I don’t want people … to privately be like, ‘Thank God that b***h is dead now.’

Additionally, Doherty shared her desire to be cremated and intended for her ashes to be mixed with those of her father and her dog. She toyed with the idea of either having a tree grow from their combined ashes or having them scattered by Cortazzo. “I have to find a place that my dad and I both really loved and it meant a lot to us,” she reflected.

Doherty’s candid and heartfelt disclosures emphasized her practical approach to her terminal condition and her unwavering commitment to her cause. Despite facing significant personal challenges, she maintained her spirits and dedication to raising awareness and aiding cancer research, all while ensuring her final wishes were clear and thoughtfully considered.
