Interstate 80 in Fairfield was shut down for about three hours due to a police standoff with a shooting suspect that ended in the suspect’s death. The suspect led police on a high-speed chase from the North Bay to the East Bay before being stopped by spike strips. The incident originated in Santa Rosa, where the suspect shot at a black SUV on Highway 101. The suspect was eventually surrounded by SWAT vehicles and officers, leading to his death by a self-inflicted gunshot. Traffic was disrupted, but lanes gradually began to reopen after the incident was resolved.
