Sources: DOJ to announce indictment of Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar

The Justice Department is expected to indict Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, on charges related to a federal investigation into Azerbaijan and U.S. businessmen with ties to the country. Cuellar’s home and campaign office were raided in January 2022. His lawyer was informed that he was not the target of the investigation, but the recent indictment suggests otherwise. Cuellar, who narrowly won his primary in 2022, will face challenges from two Republicans in the November election. Despite his previous victory, the indictment may make him vulnerable. Cuellar, an anti-abortion Democrat, has been in office since 2004.
