Starbucks to Make Case in Supreme Court Against Federal Labor Agency

After Starbucks fired seven workers who were trying to unionize their Tennessee store, a U.S. government agency obtained a court order forcing the company to rehire them. Starbucks is now seeking to limit the government’s power in such cases by taking the issue to the Supreme Court. Despite the tensions, Starbucks and Workers United have agreed to restart talks for contract agreements. The case began when Starbucks fired the workers for organizing in Memphis. The company argued policy violations, but the NLRB found it interfered with workers’ rights. Starbucks wants the Supreme Court to establish a standard for NLRB injunction cases, while the agency defends its current process.
