Stars Pay Tribute to Shannen Doherty: “Absolutely Heartbroken”

Olivia Munn, Katie Couric and more in Hollywood are mourning the loss of Shannen Doherty.

Shannen Doherty, widely recognized for her prominent roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, passed away on Saturday. Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015. Following treatments and several surgeries, she announced in April 2017 that she was in remission. However, in February 2020, Doherty revealed on Good Morning America that her cancer had returned and metastasized to stage 4. By June 2023, she shared that the cancer had spread to her brain.

“I am absolutely heartbroken over the passing of Shannen Doherty,” wrote Olivia Munn in an Instagram Story on Sunday morning. Earlier this year, Munn had revealed that she was also a breast cancer survivor who had undergone a double mastectomy. The actress mentioned that she had grown close to Doherty, connected through their shared experiences with the disease.

“We bonded through a shared battle and a desire to help other women. Looking back on the last text she sent me just a couple of months ago, she asked how I was doing and if she could do anything for me. True to form, Shannen was offering her support even though she was in the final stage of fighting this horrific disease,” Munn shared. “Cancer is truly terrifying, and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength, and grace. I’m sending all my love to her mother, who was her best friend, hero, and champion every step of the way.”

Katie Couric also expressed her grief on Instagram, sharing a reel of photos of Doherty and writing, “I’m so sad to hear this news.”

Eric West, who worked with Doherty on the 2021 film Fortress, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to offer his condolences. “My heart is broken. It was a pleasure to meet Shannen Doherty while filming our movie Fortess a little over 2 years ago! She was full of warm energy and positive vibes. So young. So talented. May she rest well,” he wrote.
