Students’ Names at Graduation Butchered by Thomas Jefferson University

Sarah Virginia Brennan experienced the mispronunciation of her first name for the first time at her graduation from Thomas Jefferson University. As she walked across the stage, a university official announced her name as “Sigh-eer Oo-voon-jean-june Bree-nun,” much to the surprise of her friends and family. Sarah had never encountered this problem before and it left her feeling frustrated and embarrassed. This incident highlights the importance of correctly pronouncing names and the impact that mispronunciations can have on individuals, especially during significant milestones like graduation.
