Survivor of South Carolina alligator attack feared for his life but managed to escape

Will Georgitis was attacked by an alligator while nearly out of air and diving in the Cooper River in South Carolina. To survive, Georgitis considered losing his arm as the alligator dragged him down. He managed to free himself and swim to safety, but suffered serious arm injuries. Despite facing surgeries and a long recovery, Georgitis considers every moment a blessing. Alligator attacks are rare in South Carolina, where the animals are federally protected. The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident. The state has had several fatal alligator attacks in recent years, including one where a woman was killed while walking her dog.
