Sydney attack victim succumbs while shielding her 9-month-old baby

People were killed and injured by an attacker at a Sydney shopping center, with most of the victims being women.

The man who carried out the attack at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center was shot dead by a police officer. His family revealed that he had a history of schizophrenia, lacked social skills, and had a fascination with knives. Police are investigating why he targeted women and avoided men during the attack.

The victims included five women and one man, with twelve others injured, mostly women.

Victims:

Ashlee Good:

Ashlee Good, a 38-year-old osteopath, was described by friends and family as a loving mother, daughter, sister, partner, and friend. Her 9-month-old daughter was injured but in stable condition at a hospital. Good’s father is a former Australian rules football player.

Dawn Singleton:

Dawn Singleton, the 25-year-old daughter of businessman John Singleton, worked as an e-commerce assistant and was described as sweet and kind-hearted. She was set to marry a police officer.

Faraz Tahir:

Faraz Tahir, a 30-year-old security guard and Pakistani refugee, was a beloved member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia. He tried to stop the attack and tragically lost his life in the process.

Jade Young:

Jade Young, a 47-year-old architect and mother of two, lost her life during the attack. She was an active volunteer in her community.

Pikria Darchia:

Pikria Darchia, a 55-year-old artist and designer, was named as a victim. She had a background in performing arts and design before coming to Australia.

Yixuan Cheng:

Yixuan Cheng, a Chinese graduate student studying economics, was the latest victim identified. She had plans to marry her fiancé after graduation.
