Taeil Exits NCT After Sexual Offense Allegations Surface

K-pop idol Moon Taeil, known mononymously as Taeil, is exiting NCT and ceasing activities with the group effective immediately.

NCT’s parent company, SM Entertainment, announced Taeil’s departure from the group in a statement posted to social media on August 28, 2024. Per a translation by Soompi, the statement, originally in Korean, reads: “This is SM Entertainment. We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognized the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After discussing with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the group.”

The statement confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that Taeil is “cooperating fully” with the proper authorities. The company also promised to “provide further statements as the investigation progresses” and apologized to fans “for the concern and distress caused by our artist.”

Taeil debuted under SM Entertainment in 2016 as a member of the subunit NCT U. He later joined NCT 127, with which he’s been active until the group’s most recent release in July 2024.
