TAINAN, Taiwan–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug 14, 2024–

The 2024 Paris Olympics wrapped up on Aug. 11, but the cultural festivities continue, with Taiwan showcasing its rich heritage and natural beauty to an international audience. Starting Aug. 12, the Tainan City Government launched a global promotional campaign in major cities such as New York, Paris, and Seoul. The campaign features striking visuals of traditional practices like the Centipede Procession and the King Boat Ceremony alongside iconic landmarks such as the Confucius Temple, Hayashi Department Store, and the Fan-shaped Salt Fields, all to highlight Tainan’s cultural richness on the world stage.

For the first time ever, two iconic door gods painted by Pan Li-shui, a master painter honored as a national treasure of Taiwan, are displayed on a large electronic billboard outside Gangnam Station in Seoul.

The year 2024 marks the 400th anniversary of Tainan, commemorating Taiwan’s four centuries of international trade since the Dutch established a trading post in present-day New York and built Fort Zeelandia in Tainan in 1624 during the Age of Discovery. Recognizing this milestone, the Tainan City Government has organized a year-long cultural event underscoring eight different facets of Tainan, including culture, urban development, health, and education.

The event calendar shines a spotlight on the Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan at the start of the year, and the “Red Ball Tainan Project,” which has ignited enthusiasm nationwide. These activities are designed to reflect on Tainan’s historical progress while exploring possibilities for sustainable urban development over the next century.

This year, Taiwan had the unique opportunity to showcase its culture on the global stage during the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad. The Tainan delegation, which included the Shiu-Kim Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Feng-Chung-Teng Spirit Guiding Group, and Hsieh Ming-yu & Pun Car Band, delivered performances that celebrated Taiwan’s rich cultural diversity, embodying the essence of “Tainan, Where You Belong.”

Following this international event, Tainan will host the 2024 Creative Expo Taiwan under the theme “Lesson :D.” The expo will feature 14 courses centered around Tainan, with major exhibitions at the 321 Art Alley Settlement, Blueprint Cultural and Creative Park, and Xizhuwei Hill Cultural and Creative Park.

This ongoing celebration emphasizes how Tainan, despite its historical roots, continues to innovate and engage with the world, making it a city of cultural and historical significance. Through these various events and campaigns, Tainan stands out as a beacon of Taiwan’s cultural and historical pride, seeking to inspire the world with its stories and traditions.
