Ted Lieu Uses Taylor Swift Lyrics in Spat with Ben Shapiro Over Harris

Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA) recently took to social media to respond to conservative commentator Ben Shapiro’s critique of the enthusiastic support for presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Lieu’s witty response incorporated lyrics from pop sensation Taylor Swift, asserting that “everything has changed.”

Shapiro’s remarks were made during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News. He cynically compared the enthusiasm surrounding Harris’ campaign to what he described as the “manufactured enthusiasm” for Swift’s latest album. Shapiro quipped that he hadn’t seen such enthusiasm since the release of Swift’s last record, drawing laughter from host Jesse Watters.

As clips of Shapiro’s comments circulated widely on the internet, Congressman Ted Lieu saw an opportunity to strike back. He cleverly quoted Swift’s lyrics, suggesting Shapiro had been forgotten much like a lyric from one of her hits, indicating that Shapiro’s comments held little significance.

Lieu wasn’t alone in his defense of Harris and Swift. Former President Barack Obama’s spokesperson-turned-podcaster Tommy Vietor also chimed in. Vietor sarcastically noted that Swift was perhaps the worst example of “manufactured enthusiasm,” given the undeniable success of her international tour, which has grossed over a billion dollars.
