Texas issues mandatory evacuations following heavy rain and floods

Mandatory evacuations were ordered in parts of Texas, with residents in Harris County being warned to prepare for days of heavy rain and flooding. Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo declared a disaster, urging residents to evacuate along the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. The American Red Cross opened shelters, and a flood warning was issued for various areas. Mayor John Whitmire warned of high water levels, comparable to those seen during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. While rain had lessened, the risk of flooding remained. Additionally, severe storms were predicted in other parts of the country.
