The American alternative rock band was presented with two Guinness World Records this week for its remarkable chart success in the United Kingdom.

According to GWR, “Mr Brightside” has spent a total of 416 weeks— and counting— on the Official U.K. Singles Chart. This achievement gives it the longest stay on the singles survey by a group and the most cumulative weeks on the U.K. tally for one song.

Earlier this year, “Mr Brightside” was also declared the biggest-ever single in the U.K. never to have reached No. 1.

Hailing from Las Vegas, The Killers were initially discovered and signed by U.K. independent label Lizard King. The band was warmly embraced by British fans from the start. “Mr Brightside” first appeared in 2003 as a limited-edition 500 CD release and was reissued in May 2004, peaking at No. 10 on the charts.

Now, after eight years of consistent presence on the national chart, the song is recognized as one of the U.K.’s top three singles for combined units—sales and streams— and is among the top five most-streamed tracks.

Frontman Brandon Flowers reflects on the song’s enduring popularity. “It’s infectious still to us. Some people can’t wrap their head around it but when you see the response live, it’s tough not to be touched by it or be excited by it,” Flowers tells GWR. “There are people tonight who’ve never seen it live and some who’ve seen it 45 times. We just don’t get tired of it.”

It seems that no one has grown tired of “Mr Brightside.” Recently, The Killers were also inducted with the SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award, acknowledging their status as one of the most streamed acts in the organization’s 21-year history.

The Killers are currently concluding a six-night stand at London’s O2 arena, part of a broader tour of the U.K. and Europe that will run through mid-July. Following this, the band will return to the U.S. for festival appearances at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands. In August, they will kick off a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, followed by additional North American festival dates running through September.
