The Movie Line Sam M. Whispered to Jenn Tran

Sam McKinney might have taken a cue from a famous movie for his latest chat-up line aimed at Jenn Tran. On the most recent episode of The Bachelorette, which aired last night, McKinney, or Sam M. as he’s known on the show, was one of the contestants participating in the Thunder Down Under group date.

Introduced to the audience as Mr. Fluster, Sam hit the stage to show off his sexy stripper moves, a nod to his steamy conversation with Jenn in the previous episode. As he made his way down to the end of the stage to meet Jenn and former Australian Bachelorettes Elly and Becky, a playful exchange took place.

"I don’t make you flustered," Jenn teased, referring to his stage persona.

Sam’s quick retort was, "No, you just bother me."

Jenn quickly replied, "Oh shut up! What line… what movie did you get that from?"

Undeterred, Sam M. leaned in for a kiss, saying, "I wouldn’t be doing this if you didn’t bother me."

After the show aired, fans were curious about the line’s origin and sent messages to Bachelornation.scoop’s Instagram. They soon discovered that the line is from the 2016 film The Choice. In the movie, Travis (played by Benjamin Walker) and Gabby (played by Teresa Palmer) share a kiss, and Gabby immediately asks, “Why’d you do that?” to which Travis replies, “Because you bother me.”

Sam M. and Jenn’s chemistry has been a major focal point this season. In the first episode, the two had a steamy makeout session after Sam received Jenn’s first impression rose. Reflecting on her decision, Jenn discussed her thought process going into that night.

"Throughout that night, I was just like, ‘Who am I going to give the first impression rose to?’ And I kept thinking back to Sam because we had such a flowing conversation," Jenn shared with Us Weekly before the season premiere. "It was easy to give him that rose because I just felt so comfortable and I knew there was potential."

However, Jenn also admitted that she didn’t have a plan for any kissing on the first night.

"I didn’t go into the night thinking, ‘I don’t want to kiss anyone.’ I knew how this process works, how other Bachelor/Bachelorettes have gone through their journeys, and for me, a first kiss means a lot. I need to feel a certain level of comfort," she explained. "I knew it wasn’t going to be everybody on night one, so I really just tried to listen to my gut, and whoever I felt most comfortable with, I entertained the idea."

During Sam M.’s performance in his chef costume, both Elly and Becky could sense the sexual tension, prompting Elly to advise Jenn. After Jenn admitted that her chemistry with Sam M. was on fire, Elly cautioned her. She recalled her own experience of picking a guy based on intense chemistry, which didn’t turn out to be a smart choice in the long run.

The ongoing spark between Sam M. and Jenn has definitely kept viewers on the edge of their seats, making this season of The Bachelorette a must-watch.

The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
