The Northwestern Chapter of the American Association of University Professors criticized University President Michael Schill’s response to the pro-Palestinian encampment on Deering Meadow, calling it a threat to academic freedom. They condemned the administration’s actions and lack of consultation with key stakeholders before implementing a new demonstration policy. Chemistry Prof. Regan Thomson stated that the Faculty Senate was consulted, but members of the Board of Trustees and other committees were not. The letter emphasized the importance of open debate and discussion on important issues. The university did not respond to inquiries about stakeholder consultation.
