TikTok Releases Summer Songs: ‘Million Dollar Baby’ to ‘Not Like Us’

Fall might be right around the corner, but not everyone is ready to leave this summer or its soundtrack in the rearview mirror.

Before we transition from “brat summer” to “demure fall,” TikTok on Monday unveiled its list of the most popular tracks and artists that played on repeat during some of the longest days of the year across the country and abroad.

The conversation surrounding this year’s song of summer began early, when Tommy Richman’s breakout hit “Million Dollar Baby” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” were released weeks before the season officially began.

Determining which song or songs will become the season’s unofficial anthem is complicated, but true contenders need to be popular throughout the season and feel like a true summer song.

TikTok has made the process simpler, basing their ranking for Top 10 Songs of the Summer on the number of times the song has been incorporated into user-generated content.

“These past few months have been an iconic hotbed for music,” TikTok said in a statement. “Country blockbuster tracks and ’80s dancing, opening ceremony performances and rising female stars across K-pop, hip-hop, afro-beats, and more: the summer’s biggest music moments have been popping off on TikTok.”

TikTok’s “Songs of the Summer” ranking does not discriminate, offering newcomers like Jordan Adetunji a place alongside certified greats like Billie Eilish.

“We’re proud to continue helping emerging artists all over the world to break through … as well as provide a platform for the world’s biggest artists to connect with fans,” TikTok said.

For fans who predicted Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” would earn the title of song of the summer back in May, you’ll be happy to know that TikTok agrees, placing Richman in first place.

Tinashe leads the pack in second, with “Nasty,” which had fans trying to match Tinashe’s “freak” across 10 million videos, according to TikTok. Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” have placed fifth and sixth on the list, respectively.

GloRilla’s feature with Megan Thee Stallion and Kendrick Lamar are the other two relatively well-known musicians included on TikTok’s ranking. Jordan Adetunji, Lay Bankz, ian, and Blood Orange also made the list, ranking 10th, seventh, fourth and third, respectively.
