Tim Kennedy, a Democrat, emerges victorious in New York special election securing House seat

Kennedy won the election against Republican Gary Dickson in Upstate New York’s district. This area includes Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Kennedy will finish former Democratic congressman Brian Higgins’s term until January. Higgins, who was elected in 2004, resigned in February to lead a performing arts center in the Democratic-leaning district.
