Tim Kennedy, a Democrat, emerges victorious in New York special election to fill former Rep. Brian Higgins’ seat.

In a New York special election, Democratic Buffalo State Senator Tim Kennedy defeated Republican West Seneca Supervisor Gary Dickson to replace former Rep. Brian Higgins. Kennedy won with a massive lead and expressed gratitude for the community’s support. He will serve out the remainder of Higgins’ term and is also running for a full term as New York’s 26th District representative. Kennedy’s victory narrows the Republican majority in the House, and he outraised Dickson by more than $1 million. The district is considered safe for Democrats, and Kennedy will face Nate McMurray in the Democratic primary in June.
