Today Marks the End of the Affordable Connectivity Program, Threatening Internet Access for Millions of Americans

Today, the Affordable Connectivity Program, established to help low-income households afford internet, is ending, impacting millions of Americans. The program was part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, offering a $30 monthly credit on broadband bills for eligible families. The decision is due to funding running out, with the Biden administration unsuccessfully requesting $6 billion to continue it. More than 23 million households utilized the program since its inception. While affected households can apply for the Lifeline program for reduced costs, providers are encouraged to offer low-cost plans despite the program’s expiration. Users should contact their provider for more information.
