Tragic Accident: One Climber Dead, Another Injured in 1000-Foot Fall off Alaska Mountain

One mountain climber died and another sustained serious injuries after falling 1,000 feet off Mt. Johnson in Denali National Park. The climbers were on a steep alpine climb known as “the Escalator” when the fall occurred and were witnessed by another climbing party who reported the incident. A rescue operation was launched, with a ranger short-hauled to the injured climber for medical assistance. The injured climber was then airlifted to Talkeetna for further care. Attempts to recover the deceased climber’s body were halted due to weather conditions. The identity of the deceased climber is being withheld pending notification of family.
