‘Transformers 7’ Officially Reveals Big Crossover: Steven Spielberg Involved in Joining Saga with Another Science Fiction Universe

Paramount has confirmed the film that will unite its most successful franchise on the big screen with ‘GI Joe’

Transformers is the most successful franchise for Paramount, and its new chapter on the big screen will join another saga that has not performed as well for the studio. It’s official: there will be a crossover of Transformers and G.I. Joe. Additionally, Steven Spielberg is involved in the project.

This news, announced at the last CinemaCon, should not take any fan by surprise. The great revelation in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh installment of the saga, was this preview. At the end of the film, the character played by Anthony Ramos makes contact in a secret bunker with Agent Burke, part of the GI Joe played by Michael Kelly.

It is not the first time that both sagas have come together. They already did so in the comics of the 80s.

For now, no further details about the project are known: neither its story, nor its cast nor its director. Steven Caple Jr. directed Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which was a moderate success, grossing more than $438 million worldwide. The film cost about $195 million, and critics reacted positively to the film.

What is confirmed is that Spielberg will act as Executive producer of the project, as indicated by Deadline. Caple Jr., on the other hand, confirmed that he was in talks to direct another film in the Transformers saga. Will this be a crossover?

Paramount’s decision to merge both sagas is a smart idea. Transformers continues to generate interest after seven installments, while G.I. Joe has struggled as a property for the studio. Its last movie, Snake Eyes: El origen, an origins film about the character, grossed more than $40 million worldwide but was a commercial and critical failure.
