Travis Kelce Stars in His First Movie, A Buddy Cop Film by John Wick Director

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, known not only for his football skills but also for his relationship with Taylor Swift, has secured his first major role in a movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelce is set to star in a new buddy cop film titled Loose Cannons. This upcoming movie is produced by Chad Stahelski, famed for directing the John Wick films, and written by Tim Dowling, who is known for Just Go With It.

Over the past year, Kelce has been exploring the entertainment industry, hinting that his days on the football field might be nearing their end. Apart from his new film role, Kelce is soon to appear on the FX horror series Grotesquerie, produced by Ryan Murphy. Additionally, he will host a reboot of the game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? for Amazon Prime Video. Last year, he even hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live to test his comedy skills.

Kelce also stepped into the realm of production, as he executive produced an independent comedy titled My Dear Friend Zoe. This film premiered at SXSW in March and is slated for a theatrical release on November 1.

The premise of Loose Cannons, as described by THR, puts a unique spin on the traditional buddy cop formula. In this movie, every police precinct has a wild, rule-breaking officer. However, instead of pairing this out-of-control officer with a straight-laced, by-the-book partner, the film pairs two such unrestrained characters together.

In Loose Cannons, the two unruly officers are forced to work together when their precincts merge due to budget cuts, and no one else wants to partner with them. Together, they tackle the cases that no one else can handle.

The script is said to have tones reminiscent of classic buddy action comedies such as Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, and Rush Hour, all noteworthy films in the genre.

As of now, no director has been announced, and details regarding the production start date and release date remain undisclosed. Kelce’s co-star for the film has also not been revealed.

Filming for Loose Cannons will likely not commence until after Kelce concludes the 2024-25 NFL season with the Chiefs.
