Travis Kelce to Star in Action-Comedy by John Wick Director

After conquering the National Football League, winning multiple Super Bowls, and earning a reputation as one of the best tight ends in football history, Travis Kelce is shifting his focus to the entertainment industry. Having already appeared as a host on Saturday Night Live and securing a supporting role in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series Grotesquerie, Kelce seems ready to take on Hollywood at full throttle as the lead in a new Lionsgate film.

According to a report from Insneider, Kelce is currently in talks with Lionsgate to star in Loose Cannons, an action comedy helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed this report, adding more details about the project.

Stahelski will be producing the film through his 87Eleven Entertainment company, together with production partners Jason Spitz and Alex Young. The screenplay for Loose Cannons was penned by Tim Dowling, known for his work on Just Go With It and Role Models.

The plot of Loose Cannons revolves around a police precinct that shakes up the traditional dynamic by pairing two rule-breaking, loose cannon officers together, instead of matching them with more conventional, by-the-book cops. Kelce is set to portray one of these officers, though the actor who will play his counterpart has not yet been revealed. The term “two-hander” has been used by sources, suggesting that both leads will be well-known figures.

It may take some time before more details about Loose Cannons come to light. Production on the film is slated to begin early next year. Given that the NFL season is about to start in two weeks, Kelce’s commitment to the Kansas City Chiefs means he will not be available until the offseason. For a team like the Chiefs, who have clinched the Super Bowl title in two of the last three years, offseason schedules may not commence until March.

Kelce’s recent venture into acting was his role in Ryan Murphy’s new FX series, Grotesquerie. Although specific details about Kelce’s character remain undisclosed, the series tells the story of a police detective and a nun investigating a series of horrifying crimes in a small town. The cast of Grotesquerie includes Niecy Nash, Lesley Manville, and Courtney B. Vance.

Before dabbling in acting roles, Kelce gained some familiarity with the entertainment world through his relationship with international pop superstar Taylor Swift over the past year.

Despite the NFL currently occupying much of his time, it’s clear that Kelce is laying the groundwork for a promising career in Hollywood.
