Actor-director Trudie Styler’s documentary “Posso entrare? An Ode to Naples” will make its U.S. premiere at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on July 17. The premiere event will include an onstage conversation moderated by acclaimed actor John Turturro.

This high-profile documentary dives deep into the heart of Naples, Italy, a southern port city known for its resilience, crime, and vibrant creative energy, nestled in the shadow of the active volcano Mount Vesuvius. Styler’s work features prominent figures such as “Gomorrah” author Roberto Saviano, Alessandra Clemente—a Naples municipal councillor whose mother was tragically killed in a mob shootout, and the women from Forti Guerriere, an organization fighting against domestic violence and femicide. Additionally, the documentary includes a musical performance by Sting, who is Trudie Styler’s husband.

In her directors’ notes, Styler—a Tuscany resident for over two decades—emphasizes that Naples has been spared from Vesuvius’s perilous lava and ash only due to favorable winds. She elaborates on the city’s means of emotional protection: “community, culture, pride, charity, family, music, food.” Styler continues, “There may not be a city more present, that more lives in the moment than Naples. There are no shortages of problems or difficulties; but even in its darkness and death, it is a city of unrivaled vitality.”

“Posso entrare? An Ode to Naples” is a collaborative production by Big Sur, Mad Entertainment, and RAI Cinema, in co-production with Luce Cinecittà. The documentary initially launched last year at the Rome Film Festival and is being distributed internationally by RAI Cinema International Distribution. It has secured sales in over a dozen territories, including licensing deals with Disney+ for the U.K. and Beta for Germany.
