Trump Claims Credit for LA 2028 Olympics, Criticizes Obama on Bid

Last night, the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics brought thousands of spectators to France’s largest stadium, where they witnessed an unforgettable moment as Los Angeles received the Olympic flag in anticipation of hosting the next Games in 2028.

The event was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an exciting appearance by Tom Cruise, who abseiled into the stadium to retrieve the flag. He then rode out on a motorbike, adding to the thrill of the ceremony. Following this, a pre-recorded segment showcased Cruise boarding a plane in Paris and parachuting into Los Angeles, all while a star-studded lineup of performers, including Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, entertained from a California beach.

The vibrant ceremony was amplified by H.E.R., a five-time Grammy winner, who sang the national anthem in front of an audience of 70,000 at Stade de France and countless viewers around the world.

In the midst of the excitement, former President Donald Trump took to social media, seeking to claim credit for Los Angeles being awarded the Games. He also criticized his predecessor, Barack Obama, regarding the bidding process.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that during his time as president-elect, he collaborated with the Olympic Organizing Committee of Los Angeles and the International Olympic Committee to secure the 2028 Olympics for the United States. He remarked that there was significant competition from other nations.

Trump stated, “President Obama refused to speak to the International Olympic Committee (perhaps because of a previous rejection by them of a proposal personally made by him!), which needed the enthusiastic support and approval of the U.S. President – Without which they would not have chosen our Country.”

According to Trump, he provided the committee with what they “wanted to hear,” claiming, “It was my great honor to do so.” He concluded, “Hopefully I will be President, and our Country will have reached new (and record!) levels of success. SEE YOU IN 2028. Thank you!”

The United States is set to become the third nation to host the Olympics three times, having won the 2028 bid after narrowly losing to Paris for the current Games during a historical double allocation in September 2017.

At that time, IOC president Thomas Bach praised both cities, stating, “These are two great cities from two great countries with a great Olympic history.” He expressed confidence in the enthusiasm of both locations in promoting the Olympic spirit.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is scheduled to arrive in the city with the Olympic flag on Monday afternoon, where she will hold a press conference to showcase this significant symbol.

Plans for the LA opening ceremony are reportedly leaning toward a more traditional approach, favoring a stadium-based setting at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, as opposed to the bold, unconventional methods seen in Paris.

In the coming years, Los Angeles will be bustling with sports events, as it is set to host a FIFA World Cup event and the US Women’s Open in 2026, alongside another Super Bowl in 2027, ensuring the city remains a focal point in the world of sports.
