Trump Considering Pardoning Every Jan. 6 Rioter on a ‘Case-by-Case’ Basis

Former President Donald Trump stated that if elected, he would “absolutely” consider pardoning all the criminals convicted in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. However, his campaign clarified that any pardons would be decided on a case-by-case basis, not as a blanket pardon. Trump referred to the attackers as “J-6 patriots” and mentioned considering pardons for those caught using various weapons during the attack. The statement came after nearly 1,000 Jan. 6 defendants had been convicted, with some facing lengthy prison sentences. Trump’s position on pardons for the rioters has evolved since January 2022, with trials ongoing in 2024.
