Trump’s response to potential violence if he loses 2024 election to Biden: ‘it depends’

Former President Donald Trump, in a cover story with Time magazine, downplayed the possibility of political violence if he loses the November election but did not rule it out. Trump expressed confidence in a victory but stated that the outcome depended on the fairness of the election. He has previously issued warnings of potential violence and a “bloodbath” if he is not re-elected. Despite facing federal charges related to actions after his election loss in 2020, Trump has defended those prosecuted for their roles in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. He also mentioned the possibility of pardoning those prosecuted. Trump denied claims of attempting to defy the Constitution for a third term and discussed the theme of retribution for his supporters and claims of persecution. Additionally, Trump spoke about potentially firing U.S. attorneys who refuse to follow his orders and indicated he wouldn’t want to prosecute district attorneys who have brought cases against him. He also mentioned appointing a special prosecutor to go after the Bidens depending on the Supreme Court’s decisions regarding immunity from prosecution for conduct while in office. The Biden campaign criticized Trump’s statements as endangering democracy.
