Tyler, The Creator: Music Biz Mistakes Meme Makers for Musicians

Tyler, The Creator has some strong opinions about the current state of hip hop, and he believes many of today’s rappers are not delivering quality music.

According to Tyler, the flood of TikTok MCs producing “meme” records is diminishing the art form. The Grammy-winning rapper shared these thoughts in a forthcoming episode of Mav Carter’s “The Mavericks” podcast, where he criticized the lack of quality control both in the music industry and the media that covers it.

Tyler took aim at artists who prioritize making money over respecting the hip hop craft. He expressed frustration with publications that overhype insignificant social media moments, making it harder for genuine artists like himself to gain attention for their work.

This sentiment echoes earlier criticisms from Candace Owens, who earlier this year called out a hip hop outlet for heavily embellishing the impact of Ice Spice’s “Fart” song. Tyler’s perspective seems to align with her disdain for superficial content.

Tyler is aware that his comments might be taken out of context once the full episode is released tomorrow, but he stands by his views on the need for greater substance in hip hop.
