U.S. assessment suggests U.S. weapons potentially used in ways conflicting with international law in Gaza

Secretary of State Antony Blinken reported to Congress on Israeli military operations in Gaza, stating Israeli forces may have violated international humanitarian law but did not formally conclude so. The report mentioned difficulties in obtaining information on whether U.S. weapons were involved due to Hamas using civilian infrastructure. Despite Israel’s cooperation improvement in humanitarian aid flow, the report criticized the IDF for possible civilian harm. The report noted ongoing criminal investigations by Israel but drew criticism from lawmakers for not making concrete determinations. Israel paused a shipment of bombs due to civilian deaths in Gaza, with President Biden indicating potential restrictions on further weapons if Israel attacks population centers.
