U.S. marshal and two others killed, four CMPD officers injured in Charlotte shooting during warrant operation

An attempt to serve a warrant turned deadly in Charlotte as a deputy U.S. marshal and three other task force members were shot and killed. A total of eight law enforcement officers were shot, including two correction officers and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who later died. Officer Joshua Eyer, a six-year veteran, succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, Terry Clark Hughes Jr., was killed by officers after a standoff. Three U.S. marshals were killed, along with two correction officers identified as Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott. President Biden mourned the loss of the officers and called for more action to protect law enforcement officers and combat gun violence.
