UCLA campus in turmoil as police confront protestors with threat of arrest

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters at UCLA remained behind barricades despite police orders to leave. The police briefly entered the encampment but retreated due to protesters outnumbering them. A tense standoff followed, with protesters chanting “we’re not leaving.” The encampment grew with tents and people, as clashes between groups erupted. UCLA Chancellor condemned the violence and promised a review. The nationwide campus demonstrations started in April to protest Israel’s offensive in Gaza. Some schools agreed to discuss divesting from Israel. Protests continued with arrests and campus disruptions, raising questions about the impact on the upcoming election year.
