UCLA campus sees violence as clashes erupt between pro-Palestinian protesters and counter-protesters

After UCLA declared a pro-Palestinian encampment unlawful, a clash between protesters and counter-protesters resulted in one person being taken away in an ambulance with unclear injuries. Law enforcement left after paramedics treated the victim, with LAPD stating that UCPD was handling the situation. Despite requests for police support, hostilities continued. Counter-protesters threw fireworks and other objects, with fights breaking out past barriers. Protesters resisted orders to leave, demanding divestment from Israel. UC President Drake supported UCLA’s actions, noting the importance of free expression but emphasizing the need for safety and academic functioning.
