UCLA faculty denounce treatment of pro-Palestinian students

About 20 UCLA faculty members protested outside the UCLA Hammer Museum’s gala, demanding amnesty for arrested pro-Palestinian students and calling for Chancellor Gene Block’s resignation. They criticized the treatment of students by the police during the clearing of their encampment and when they were attacked by counterprotesters. Professors witnessed violence against students and accused Block of failing to protect them. UCLA’s police chief denied security lapses, while Block described the incident as a dark chapter in the campus’s history. The gala, attended by celebrities like Jane Fonda and Keanu Reeves, had a somber tone due to the ongoing protests. Jodie Foster spoke about the importance of speaking out and defending freedom of expression and protest.
