United Methodist Church ends 40-year ban on LGBTQ clergy

The United Methodist Church has overturned its 40-year ban on LGBTQ clergy, marking a historic shift in the church’s stance on homosexuality. The decision came after decades of debate and division within the church over LGBTQ inclusion. In a 692-51 vote, church leaders overturned the ban on gay clergy and penalties for same-sex marriages. LGBTQ advocates within the church celebrated the decision, with many expressing relief and gratitude for the change. Despite this progress, there is still work to be done to ensure the Methodist church is an inclusive place for everyone.
