Despite official bans on LGBTQ clergy and same-sex weddings, many local United Methodist conferences, especially in the U.S., have chosen not to enforce them. The recent vote at the General Conference could lead to the end of these bans by allowing regionalization, giving different regions the autonomy to make their own rules. While concerns remain about lifting bans in other parts of the world, the vote signals a new way forward for the church. The plan passed with 78% of the vote and now awaits ratification, potentially paving the way for a more inclusive global church.
