University of Illinois issues caution about unacceptable behavior during demonstrations

The University of Illinois’ administration issued a statement regarding a pro-Palestinian protest, urging community members to stay away from the protest site due to unlawful conduct. Chancellor Robert Jones and Vice Chancellor John Coleman explained that the protest involved physically resisting university police officers. The officers chose to deescalate the situation to prevent injury. The administration warned that those who do not comply with orders to leave may face consequences, including arrest or interim suspension from the university. They are working to convince demonstrators to disperse voluntarily for a peaceful resolution.
